The Piko is a Hawaiian term for belly button. For the Hawaiians the Piko was kept close to the heart. When a baby was born the skin from the Piko was kept in a safe place, away from rats and other predators that could consume it. Hawaiians still practice this by hiding the piko out in the ocean or buried under a tree. They believed that if predators (namely the rat) consumed the Piko it would affect the child. For example, f a rat ate the piko the child would grow up cunning and evil.

The chain for the necklace is adjustable around 22" to 24".
